The American Border Story is heartbroken for the Toler family after 6-year-old Calli Toler was killed in a Pitt County crash that also seriously injured her mother and younger sibling.
The accused driver is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to stop for a stop sign, careless and reckless driving, and driving while license revoked. The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed that ICE has issued an immigration detainer.
Calli was not a statistic. She was a little girl with her whole life ahead of her. Her family should be making summer memories, not planning a funeral.
When a child is killed and the accused driver was allegedly on the road with a revoked license and is now subject to an ICE detainer, the public deserves answers. Families deserve laws that are enforced before tragedy strikes, not after.
We are praying for Calli’s family, for her mother and sibling as they recover, and for every angel family forced to live with the consequences of preventable failures.
