WASHINGTON, DC – The American Border Story (TABS) issued the following statement celebrating the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a critical step toward restoring national security operations after a historic 75-day shutdown:
“After 75 days of dysfunction, political gamesmanship, and recklessness, Congress has finally funded the agency tasked with protecting our homeland. This should never have been up for debate.
“For months, ICE, Border Patrol, and TSA have been forced to do critical work without the full support and resources they require. That failure rests squarely on the shoulders of Democrat leaders who chose obstruction over duty.
“If Congress is serious about protecting American lives, it must go beyond this baseline measure. ICE and Border Patrol must be fully funded, fully staffed, and fully empowered to enforce the law. Anything less is a continued dereliction of duty.
“TABS urges Congress to act swiftly to advance the reconciliation process and deliver robust, sustained funding for ICE and Border Patrol. Every delay weakens our national security and puts American lives at risk.
“The American people deserve a government that prioritizes their safety. Today’s vote is an important step in the right direction, but now Congress must finish the job.”
