WASHINGTON, DC –  Today, The American Border Story (TABS) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Senate’s passage of a budget resolution to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), marking a significant step toward restoring full operations at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):

“After months of political obstruction that left our nation badly exposed, this development represents a long-overdue course correction. Funding ICE and CBP is essential to protecting American communities, enforcing our laws, and safeguarding our sovereignty. Democrats shuttered DHS, disrupting vital law enforcement operations and putting American lives at risk. This resolution begins to reverse that dangerous trajectory.

“ICE and CBP personnel serve on the frontlines of combating human trafficking, drug smuggling, and transnational criminal activity. Stable funding is crucial to sustaining those vital objectives. The Senate’s resolution, which passed late last night, moves to end the severe funding lapse that has strained DHS operations since February 14th.

“While this is a positive step forward, Congress must reject future attempts to politicize border security and instead commit to fully funding the brave men and women who defend our nation every day.”
