WASHINGTON, DC –  Today, The American Border Story (TABS) issued a statement strongly condemning a coast-to-coast effort by Democrat governors and legislatures to obstruct federal immigration enforcement efforts. Over the past two weeks, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Oregon, and Virginia have all advanced or enacted anti-ICE legislation, undermining public safety and weakening the rule of law:

“Democrat governors are rapidly dismantling cooperation between local law enforcement and ICE, stripping federal agents of key protections, and aggressively expanding sanctuary policies. In recent weeks, five blue states have advanced policies that shield criminal illegal aliens from justice and put more American families at risk.

“Oregon Governor Tina Kotek signed a broad package of measures expanding the state’s sanctuary framework by tightening limits on information-sharing and collaboration between state systems and federal immigration enforcement. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont followed by approving an ICE oversight measure that expands legal liability for federal agents and adds new operational constraints. In Virginia, Governor Spanberger has already moved to unwind formal cooperation frameworks between ICE and local law enforcement.

“On Monday, the Maryland House and Senate passed legislation restricting cooperation between local law enforcement and ICE. The bill now awaits Governor Wes Moore’s signature. And most recently in Maine, Governor Janet Mills is preparing to sign a ‘sensitive locations’ policy, passed by both the state House and Senate, that would place limits on where ICE is permitted to conduct enforcement actions.

“These dangerous policies collectively make American families less safe by providing safe havens for criminals and tying the hands of law enforcement agencies tasked with protecting American communities. TABS unequivocally condemns these actions and demands Governors Kotek, Lamont, Spanberger, Moore, and Mills reverse course before more American families are forced to bury their loved ones as a direct result of these reckless policies.”
