WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The American Border Story (TABS) issued the following statement as Governor Spanberger considers the release of a Guatemalan national charged with attempted rape in Clarendon, Virginia:
“Just three months into her tenure, Governor Spanberger’s pro-illegal immigrant policies are already putting Virginians in danger. On April 13, Luzvin Garcia Moran, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, violently assaulted and attempted to rape a woman waiting for a rideshare. He is currently in custody with the Arlington County Police Department, and ICE has requested that this dangerous individual not be released back into the community.
“This horrific attack was preventable. Virginia’s sanctuary-style policies allowed Garcia Moran to remain on the streets despite 25 prior charges dating back to 2020. Governor Spanberger’s refusal to prioritize public safety has created an environment where repeat offenders face no real consequences, and innocent Americans pay the price.
“Rather than confront the deadly impact of these policies, Governor Spanberger continues to shield criminal illegal aliens to appease political allies. She has already ignored TABS’ calls for accountability following the murder of Stephanie Minter in Fairfax County by another illegal immigrant. Now, she faces yet another test of leadership.
“This should not be a difficult choice. Stand with victims and their families or continue enabling the conditions that lead to these tragedies.
“TABS calls on the Arlington County Police Department and Governor Spanberger to ensure that Luzvin Garcia Moran is not released and is fully processed for deportation following his expected conviction. Anything less would be a failure to protect the citizens of Virginia.”
