WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The American Border Story (TABS) released the following statement urging Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago officials to honor the arrest detainer lodged by ICE against Jose Medina-Medina, the Venezuelan national arrested for killing 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman in Chicago, IL:
“In the wake of the tragic killing of 18-year-old Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman, TABS is calling on Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago officials to work with federal immigration authorities to ensure the individual accused in the case is not released back into the community.
“Jose Medina-Medina, an illegal immigrant released into the country by the Biden administration and twice freed due to Illinois sanctuary policies, now stands accused of fatally shooting Gorman in Chicago in the early morning hours of March 20.
“This violent criminal has no place on our streets. Following his arrest, federal immigration officials issued a detainer request to ensure he remains in custody and is transferred to federal authorities following local proceedings. TABS expresses its sincerest condolences to the Gorman family and urges Illinois and Chicago officials to fully honor federal detainer requests in this case.
“Too often, sanctuary policies are responsible for the deaths of American citizens. It is time for Illinois’ elected officials to focus on keeping their communities safe instead of working to protect foreign criminals.”
