WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The American Border Story (TABS) issued the following statement celebrating the passage of Rain’s Law, which requires age-appropriate fentanyl abuse prevention and drug poisoning awareness education in Oklahoma schools:
“Oklahoma lawmakers have taken a critical, lifesaving step by advancing Rain’s Law and ensuring students statewide are taught the dangers of fentanyl. Education is one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent fentanyl poisoning, and this law gives young people the knowledge they need to recognize and avoid this deadly threat.
“Fentanyl poisoning is a national epidemic. Nearly 70 percent of all overdose deaths in 2023 were linked to fentanyl. No community has been spared, and too many families have been ripped apart by this horrible poison.
“President Trump has made ending the fentanyl epidemic a top national priority — designating fentanyl a weapon of mass destruction and signing the HALT Fentanyl Act into law to strengthen enforcement and crack down on traffickers pushing this poison into our country. Rain’s Law brings that same urgency to prevention and education at the state level.
“This legislation honors the life of Rain Reece, who lost her life to fentanyl poisoning, and the extraordinary courage of her mother, Karla Carlock, who turned unimaginable grief into action in the fight against fentanyl.
“Rain’s Law shows what is possible when lawmakers listen to families, act with urgency, and refuse to accept fentanyl deaths as the status quo.”
Karla Carlock added:
“Rain wanted to be a teacher and change the world. If Rain’s Law saves even one life by bringing fentanyl education into schools, then she is still doing exactly that. One life is everything to the family who gets to keep their child.”
