WASHINGTON, DC – The American Border Story (TABS) released the following statement after a federal Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer was injured during a targeted immigration enforcement operation in South Los Angeles:

“During an immigration enforcement operation on Wednesday, William Eduardo Moran Carballo, an illegal alien from El Salvador, attempted to flee from federal officers and deliberately rammed law enforcement personnel with his vehicle. His actions injured a CBP officer and placed the surrounding community in grave danger. In response to the immediate threat, a federal agent discharged a firearm. Thankfully, no one was injured and Carballo was later apprehended.

“Carballo has a documented history of violent criminal activity, including involvement in a human smuggling operation. Although an immigration judge issued him a final order of removal in 2019, he remained in the United States and continued to pose a threat to his community.

“As a direct result of California’s sanctuary policies and Governor Gavin Newsom’s dangerous rhetoric, federal officers now face a 3,200% increase in vehicle-based attacks. These policies have created a hostile environment that favors criminals like Carballo and places law enforcement officers and innocent community members at great risk.

“TABS strongly urges all illegal aliens who are subject to enforcement actions to comply peacefully with federal officers. Lawful compliance saves lives, reduces the risk of injury, and ensures that enforcement operations are carried out safely.”
