It’s like we got our very own “Soup Nazi” á la Seinfeld.
Except instead of denying customers delicious soup, he’s denying illegal immigrants Section-8 Housing.
I so voted for this.
The man behind the proverbial soup serving counter?
Our one and only U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner.
But what am I even talking about?
Well, let me take you back a few months.
In March of this year, Turner and U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem “jointly signed the “American Housing Programs for American Citizens” Memorandum of Understanding (MOU),
This MOU created an “interagency partnership” with a full-time HUD staffer assisting to “facilitate data sharing and ensure taxpayer-funded housing programs are not used to harbor or benefit illegal aliens.” Basically, the HUD staffer was added to the DHS Incident Command Center, creating a filter to sift out any illegal immigrants who are using federal housing programs.
Why was this important?
Because America is in a housing crisis.
According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. housing market “is in crisis, driven by a fundamental imbalance between supply and demand. A severe shortage of over 4.5 million homes has created cascading economic and social challenges, from skyrocketing prices to reduced workforce mobility.”
Now add tens of millions of illegals to the mix.
The Chamber of Commerce also notes that “migration trends reflect the challenges in the housing market” and that the states along the Southern border of the U.S. have “experienced significant positive migration.”
What an absolute mystery it is as to where all these new people came from and where all the houses have gone……
I kid.
According to the Center for Immigration Studies, 59 percent of illegals use at least one U.S welfare program, costing the American taxpayer and annual $42 billion.
Despite the Left protesting the reality of this upsetting fact, we also know that there are “about 9 million residents of public and subsidized housing without proper information sharing to determine eligibility status.”
Simply put – illegals are taking up homes that should be given to American citizens who are in need, not criminals who have broken the law by crossing the border and are free loading on the American taxpayer’s dollar.
The signing of the MOU was a moment of two government agencies joining forces and coming together to put Americans first.
It was a beautiful reminder that we are committed to Making America Great and Safe Again.
But that was March, and this is September.
Thankfully, our Secretary Turner is not one to sit for photo ops and deliver pleasing platitudes without making good on his promises to the American people – and he’s done exactly that.
Last week, Turner sent out a memo, explaining that “each public housing authority has 30 days to conduct an audit to ensure that the existing orders are enforced.”
He explained that they will be seeking verified citizenship of Section-8 recipients and applicants, along with immigration status.
Turner also revealed that since taking office, his department has discovered that HUD “only serves one out of four eligible families due, in part, to the lack of enforcement of prohibition against federally funded assistance to illegal aliens.”
His message to every single public housing authority program was clear – if a program does not submit the HUD requested information on all Section-8 recipients in regard to citizenship and immigration status in the next 30 days, they could lose their federal funding.
See? I told you I voted for this.
The concept of prioritizing Americans over illegals who have been pouring through our open borders since the Biden Administration is one that has finally begun to become a reality since President Trump took office just seven short months ago.
American families need homes.
American children need bedrooms and safe places to grow up.
American parents need a kitchen to eat in after a hard day’s work.
America is a homeland, after all.
So, in the words of Secretary Turner’s apparent soup chef alter-ego, if you are in this country illegally – “No House For You!”
